When should I report an incident to the police?
You need to report any lost items, theft, attempted theft, fire or
intentional damage to the police within 24 hours. These and all other
claims must be reported to us within 30 days of the incident.
How will The Power Short-term Insurance (Underwritten by Momentum Short-term Insurance Company Ltd) settle a claim?
In the event of a claim we can either:
- pay out cash to you
- repair the damage at a service provider of our choice
- replace the item at a supplier of our choice
- use any combination of the above
Who should I use to tow my car after it was in an accident?
We have a panel of approved tow-truck operators and only allow them to
tow your car. Using an approved operator ensures safe recovery and
storage of your vehicle and avoids excessive storage and release fees.
The 'Do not tow' sticker that we included with your policy
documentation also helps to prevent unscrupulous operators from towing

process for you if you are ever in an accident.
Do I need to obtain repair quotations if my vehicle is in an accident?
No, one of our vehicle assessors will access the damage and we will instruct the panelbeaters to repair the damage accordingly.
To whom do I pay my excess in the case of a vehicle accident claim?
You pay your excess directly to the panelbeater when collecting your vehicle.
If I am covered to receive a rental vehicle in the event of a claim, where do I collect it from?
We will arrange for you to collect the vehicle at an Avis branch near
you, or if you are within a 50km radius from them we will arrange the
delivery free of charge.
Why should I deal only with companies approved by Underwritten by
Momentum Short-term Insurance Company Ltd) when insured goods are
repaired and replaced?
We carefully select and monitor the companies on our service provider
panel. This ensures you of the best products, service and expertise in
the industry, and also ensures that any applicable warranties remain in
place. If you do not make use of an approved service provider the
repairs or replacements are done at your own risk.
What excess of payable in the event of a multiple claim?
When more than one of your risks is involved in a claim (eg you drive
your car into your garage wall and both are insured by us), we will
apply the highest excess of these risks to the claim. Therefore, you
will pay only one excess per incident, even if several risks were
involved.
Do I need to provide quotations for contents stolen in the case of a burglary at my house?
Our assessors will obtain the necessary quotations in the event of a
claim, so there is no need for you to waste your time doing so.
I live on the Highveld and have suffered losses due to lightning. How do you deal with these claims?
We collect and test the damaged items, free of charge. The replaced and/or repaired items will also be delivered to you.
What is 'betterment' and how is it applied?
Betterment takes place when we put you in a better situation than
before the incident. If your vehicle is in an accident and we replace
your vehicle's old tyres that have 60% of their thread left, you are in
a better position than before. In this case we will pay for 60% of the
cost of the tyres and you will pay for the balance.
